About the Role

The position requires interpreting project plans, implementing pre‑construction quality plans, managing permits, tracking materials, overseeing testing and inspections, handling submittals, RFIs, change orders, and coordinating subcontractor documentation and payments. The engineer will also build relationships across diverse backgrounds, lead team members, and provide coaching and performance management. • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft personnel. • Implement pre‑construction quality plans and manage construction permits. • Develop and maintain material tracking, test/inspection logs, concrete placement logs, and non‑conformance reports. • Manage contract documents, including RFIs, correspondence, submittals, and change orders. • Oversee testing and inspection using a three‑phase inspection system. • Coordinate subcontractor insurance verification, final payment requests, and related documentation. • Build relationships across diverse backgrounds and lead team members through coaching and performance management.

What You Bring

Mortenson is seeking a Project Engineer to manage field coordination issues, with opportunities at both level 1 and level 2 based on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined by experience, location, and internal equity, and the role is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or construction field (or equivalent experience), possess a valid driver’s license, be detail‑oriented, and have basic knowledge of construction law. Required skills include teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, leadership, proficiency with Microsoft Office and project web applications, and the ability to interpret Mortenson policies. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil/Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience. • Valid driver’s license and detail‑oriented multitasking ability. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, project, and relevant web applications. • Ability to interpret and apply Mortenson policies and actively listen to diverse input.

Project Engineer 1 requires a minimum of two years of related experience with a base pay range of $84,100‑$113,500; Project Engineer 2 requires three years with a base pay range of $93,400‑$126,100, with higher ranges for specific locations.
