Traffic Engineer (EI)
Design traffic control plans, signals, ITS, and lighting for NC/SC DOT projects.

About the Role
• Prepare work zone traffic control (transportation management) plans, signing and pavement marking plans. • Design traffic signal systems, closed‑loop signal controls, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions. • Conduct traffic analyses using Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, or SIDRA software. • Develop roadway lighting designs for major projects. • Create temporary traffic control plans and manage their implementation. • Produce signing and pavement marking designs for state DOT and municipal projects.

What You Bring
The position is primarily office‑based, requiring repetitive finger motions such as picking, pinching, typing, and grasping. Candidates must have visual acuity for computer work, be able to sit for extended periods, and lift up to 10 lb frequently (up to 50 lb occasionally). Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities. • Hold a BS in Civil Engineering (or related field) and obtain NC PE licensure within 3 months (preferred). • Possess at least 4 years of traffic engineering experience on North Carolina or South Carolina DOT projects. • Demonstrate knowledge of state and municipal policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines. • Exhibit strong communication, presentation, writing, and organizational skills. • Use Microsoft Office proficiently; experience with MicroStation, ORD, or Civil3D is a plus. • Project or task management experience preferred.
