About the Role

The Survey Assistant supports the Party Chief and Rodman by taking precise measurements and producing quality layouts for unit installation. This role involves gathering data on the shape, contour, elevation, and dimensions of land and related features for engineering and construction purposes. • Hold level or stadia rod and place stakes at designated elevations for surveys. • Measure distances between points using tape, chain, or steel. • Mark measurement points with paint sticks, tacks, or stakes. • Load and unload equipment and prepare it for daily jobs. • Calculate heights, depths, property lines, and terrain characteristics. • Determine latitudes and longitudes using theodolites, levels, and GPS. • Record survey results including shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions. • Adjust surveying instruments to maintain accuracy. • Follow all safety procedures, report hazards, and exercise stop‑work authority when needed. • Report accidents and near‑misses and assist in investigations. • Participate in pre‑job planning, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions. • Respond appropriately to safety warnings and devices. • Observe lockout/tag‑out procedures and attend site‑specific safety training. • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to safety regulations. • Listen to co‑workers' suggestions and safety concerns, ask questions, and provide feedback. • Coordinate work with other trades and team members. • Engage in on‑the‑job training and mentorship opportunities. • Produce quality work that meets plans, specifications, and industry standards. • Read and interpret plans and specifications; visualize 2‑D drawings in 3‑D. • Assist in planning, installing, or repairing systems per plans and learn independent layout. • Observe equipment operation, identify hazards, and use stop‑work authority as required. • Inspect field conditions, identify problems, and recommend cost‑saving measures. • Operate and maintain construction equipment safely, completing daily inspections if certified. • Comply with the Company Code of Conduct and jobsite policies. • Lift and carry items up to 50 lb. • Work in confined, cluttered, or uneven areas, standing, kneeling, bending, or stooping. • Climb and balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds. • Work up to 12‑hour shifts in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.

What You Bring

Candidates should have experience in industrial construction with layout or survey responsibilities, or as a construction helper, and possess a basic understanding of field surveys. They must be comfortable applying mathematics—including algebra, trigonometry, and geometry—to verify calculations, analyze survey data, and determine geographic positions. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Preferred qualifications include NCCER Construction Craft Laborer certification and completion of the NCCER Core Curriculum or an equivalent craft training program. All new hires must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, which may involve a background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle records review in accordance with applicable laws. • Clear brush, trees, and obstructions from the survey line. • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; perform rapid arithmetic calculations. • Perform repetitive hand movements and maintain full range of motion.
