Design Engineer -Electrical

About the Role

The successful candidate will join an international design and engineering team focused on power transformers up to 765 kV for Canadian markets and beyond. Responsibilities include influencing specifications at the tender stage, preparing electrical designs and quotations that meet factory limits and IEEE/Canadian standards, and generating preliminary customer and tender documents, bills of materials, and other deliverables. The role also involves coordinating design activities across a worldwide factory network, participating in internal design reviews, and collaborating with technical teams globally while upholding Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity values and ensuring regulatory compliance. • Design electrical systems for power transformers up to 765 kV, adhering to IEEE and Canadian standards. • Influence specifications during tender and pre‑tender stages through conceptual discussions. • Prepare quotations, preliminary customer documents, tender packages, and bills of materials per project schedule. • Coordinate design activities across a global network of factories and participate in internal design reviews. • Ensure compliance with external regulations, internal procedures, and Hitachi Energy’s safety and integrity standards.

What You Bring

Applicants must hold a B.E. or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and have at least four years of electrical design experience, with higher experience also considered. Required knowledge includes transformer electrical design, thermal, dielectric, short‑circuit, sound performance, and mechanics, as well as proficiency with IEEE and Canadian standards. Experience with simulation or software development, Microsoft Office VBA/tools, and strong spoken and written English are advantageous. Demonstrated team‑building and networking skills are preferred. • Minimum B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with at least 4 years of electrical design experience. • Strong knowledge of transformer electrical design, thermal, dielectric, short‑circuit, and mechanical aspects. • Familiarity with IEEE and Canadian standards; simulation or software development experience is a plus. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office VBA/tools and fluent spoken and written English. • Demonstrated team‑building and networking skills; ability to collaborate with global technical teams.
