Principal Software Development Engineer

About the Role

As a Principal Software Development Engineer on the Infrastructure Automation Team, you will set the technical direction of the multi‑cloud automation platform. You will architect solutions that operate at global scale and enable hundreds of internal teams to consume cloud resources securely. The role blends hands‑on technical leadership, architectural ownership, and cross‑team influence. You will define and evolve the multi‑cloud architecture of the Alfred Platform, establishing engineering standards for serverless, microservices, automation, and observability. You will drive architectural decisions for multi‑account and multi‑project cloud strategies, lead design reviews, and mentor engineers on system design and best practices. Ownership includes the long‑term technical roadmap, scalability strategy, and modernization efforts. You will design and build complex systems for cloud account provisioning, governance, and lifecycle management using serverless, containers, and managed services. You will lead Terraform module architecture for AWS, Azure, and GCP, create event‑driven orchestration with cloud‑native messaging, and set observability standards for logs, metrics, traces, and alerts at scale. Integration of AI‑assisted observability, anomaly detection, and intelligent remediation will be a key focus. Collaboration with Security and Compliance teams will ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance, while partnering with SRE teams will drive incident response and operational excellence. You will work with Product teams to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and coordinate with global engineering groups across regions. Engagement with cloud‑provider partners will help adopt new services and best practices. • Define and evolve the multi‑cloud architecture of the Alfred Platform for 100+ internal teams. • Establish engineering standards for serverless, microservices, infrastructure automation, and observability. • Lead design reviews and mentor engineers on system design, code quality, and cloud best practices. • Own the long‑term technical roadmap, scalability strategy, and platform modernization initiatives. • Architect and build cloud account provisioning, governance, and lifecycle management systems. • Design large‑scale cloud‑native solutions using serverless, containers, and managed services. • Lead Terraform module architecture across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. • Implement event‑driven orchestration with cloud‑native messaging and workflow services. • Set observability standards for logs, metrics, traces, and alerting at scale. • Integrate AI‑assisted observability, anomaly detection, predictive insights, and intelligent remediation. • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to ensure audit readiness and regulatory compliance. • Collaborate with SRE teams for incident response and operational excellence. • Translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions with global engineering teams. • Engage cloud provider partners on service adoption and best practices.

What You Bring

Required qualifications include 8+ years of software development experience, with at least 5 years in senior or principal roles. Candidates must have a proven track record designing and delivering large‑scale distributed systems, strong architectural judgment across cloud platforms, and experience mentoring engineers. Deep expertise with at least two major cloud providers, proficiency in Go and Python, and advanced Terraform skills are essential. Technical expertise should cover microservices, serverless, and event‑driven architectures, as well as cloud security, identity, encryption, and compliance frameworks. Experience with observability at scale, failure‑mode analysis, and operating Kubernetes‑based platforms (EKS, AKS, GKE) is required. Preferred qualifications include AI‑assisted operational system design, cloud governance, FinOps, and cloud certifications. • Minimum 8 years software development experience, with 5+ years in senior or principal roles. • Proven experience designing large‑scale distributed systems and strong architectural judgment. • Deep expertise with at least two cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and advanced Terraform skills. • Proficiency in Go and Python; expertise in microservices, serverless, and event‑driven architectures. • Strong understanding of cloud security, identity, encryption, and compliance frameworks. • Experience with observability at scale and operating Kubernetes platforms (EKS, AKS, GKE). • Preferred: AI‑assisted operational systems (AIOps), cloud governance, FinOps, and cloud certifications. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
