About the Role
The engineer will coordinate with contract managers, construction superintendents, clients, and quality managers to ensure technical clarity, proper scheduling, and compliance with quality plans. They will also serve as the technical focal point for sub‑suppliers, providing advice, managing queries, and preparing required documentation. • Deliver telecommunications aspects of utilities projects across the full lifecycle. • Prepare estimates and tender documentation. • Develop design documentation meeting client and regulatory requirements. • Engage and manage suppliers and contractors for telecom systems. • Procure and construct optical‑fibre telecommunications infrastructure. • Create and execute testing and commissioning plans and procedures. • Achieve handover to customers and provide post‑handover support. • Coordinate telecom activities with other project disciplines and contractors. • Review project plans with Contract Manager to clarify technical scope and contractual terms. • Liaise with Construction Superintendent to schedule telecom work accurately. • Communicate technical aspects with clients and attend client meetings as required. • Serve as focal point for technical queries from sub‑suppliers and provide engineering advice. • Collaborate with Quality Manager to ensure Inspection and Test Plans comply with quality standards. • Compile construction work packs and test packs according to project requirements. • Prepare material and service requisitions with accurate content and timing. • Maintain and sign off quality records in line with project schedules. • Produce written reports on engineering activities as needed. • Assess risks and hazards, devising mitigation methods to prevent incidents. • Mentor and develop junior engineering staff. • Provide ongoing training for career progression. • Foster a safe, supportive, and positive workplace culture. • Promote a united, collaborative environment that delivers technical excellence and innovative solutions. • Build a reputable brand trusted by employees, clients, and stakeholders.

What You Bring
UGL is seeking an experienced Telecommunications Project Engineer to join the Utilities Team, focusing on delivering telecom solutions for Australian electricity authorities. The role spans the entire project lifecycle, from tendering and design through construction, testing, handover, and post‑handover support. Candidates must hold a diploma or degree in engineering (or equivalent experience), possess strong Microsoft Office skills, and have at least five years of experience in designing, procuring, constructing, and commissioning optical‑fibre telecom systems for utilities such as Ausgrid and Transgrid. Hands‑on experience with rack builds and fibre splicing in an electrical‑utilities environment is essential. • Hold a diploma/degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience. • Demonstrate intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.). • Minimum five years experience in design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of fibre‑based telecom systems for Australian electricity authorities. • Practical experience with equipment rack builds and fibre splicing in an electrical utilities environment.
