About the Role
ECS is actively hiring Senior Geotechnical Engineers to lead major infrastructure and transportation initiatives across North Carolina. The role blends technical leadership in complex geotechnical design with high‑level client management for DOT and other large‑scale programs. Successful candidates will oversee multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets, and ensure compliance with industry standards. • Provide leadership for multidisciplinary teams on geotechnical and construction materials testing projects. • Design embankments, retaining structures, subgrade stabilization, and both deep and shallow foundations using MicroStation and OpenRoads. • Plan and supervise geotechnical field explorations, including drilling, test pits, and inspections. • Act as the primary liaison for DOT project managers and external stakeholders, meeting technical requirements and deadlines across multiple programs. • Produce and seal geotechnical engineering reports and design packages. • Manage project budgets and allocate resources to ensure timely delivery of infrastructure deliverables. • Identify regional business opportunities and lead the technical portion of proposal submissions. • Build and maintain relationships with DOT officials, municipal agencies, and Tier 1 prime consultants. • Ensure 100 % compliance with NCDOT, AASHTO, and ASTM standards for all technical deliverables and field operations.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil, geotechnical, or geological engineering and maintains a Professional Engineer (PE) license, with at least five years of relevant experience. Expertise in the DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD specifications, and geotechnical software such as gINT, LPile, and MicroStation is required. Strong analytical, report‑writing, communication, and leadership skills, as well as a valid driver’s license, are essential. • Hold a BS or MS in Civil/Geotechnical/Geological Engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license (PG license acceptable in some states). • Possess 5+ years of geotechnical and transportation engineering experience, with expertise in DOT Geotechnical Design Manual, AASHTO LRFD, and software such as gINT, LPile, APile, MSEW, FB‑Pier, GRLWEAP. • Demonstrate proficiency in MicroStation (preferred) and strong analytical, report‑writing, and communication abilities. • Exhibit initiative, leadership in problem‑solving, decision‑making, and hold a valid driver’s license for travel.
