Senior Construction Manager

About the Role
The incumbent will lead client strategy, capture new and existing public‑works projects, and maintain strong relationships with agencies at the local, state, and federal level. Collaboration with business development, marketing, and technical leadership is essential to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to quality standards. • Respond to RFPs and RFQs in partnership with NV5’s Business Development Department. • Pursue and secure new work while managing existing client engagements. • Develop client strategies to capture public works infrastructure construction management and inspection projects in Southern California. • Lead client outreach, interviews, presentations, and participation in client council meetings. • Attend and present at industry conferences to foster growth and investment. • Coordinate go/no-go discussions with the Office Manager and business leaders. • Collaborate with in‑house marketing to prepare proposals and qualifications. • Lead public works infrastructure projects across construction phases, providing engineering expertise for water transmission, sewer systems, treatment plants, roadways, ADA improvements, street lighting, parks, and public buildings. • Monitor project expenses, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and report financial status. • Track budget expenditures, request budget increases when scope expands, and manage contract scope. • Supervise inspectors, geologists, surveyors, and external consultants on construction management and inspection. • Work with the Director of Program Management and Construction Management on budgeting, scheduling, and invoicing. • Conduct site meetings, weekly progress reviews, and coordinate quality, schedule, and payment activities. • Provide recommendations on contract disputes, schedule variances, change orders, liquidated damages, and potential design errors. • Participate in risk analysis and mitigation planning. • Review and advise clients on contractor personnel, equipment, materials, and supplies. • Manage contractor submittals and RFIs, maintaining logs and reporting status to the client. • Approve contractor progress payments and maintain payment logs. • Monitor contractor compliance with quality requirements and coordinate deficiency resolution. • Prepare monthly progress reports and review contractor daily reports for accuracy. • Coordinate startup, testing, and commissioning of building systems. • Provide technical direction to subordinate managers and enforce project policies. • Hold profit/loss responsibility for assigned construction projects.

What You Bring
The company seeks a motivated, experienced individual who can combine business development, project management, and senior construction management for its expanding Public Works Infrastructure practice in Southern California. The role will influence clients, engineers, construction personnel, and internal teams while reporting to the Director of Program Management and Construction Management. Candidates must have at least ten years of construction management and engineering experience, a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, and a California PE or CCM license. Experience with Southern California public agencies, knowledge of permitting regulations and codes, and proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, and Primavera P6 are required. • Minimum 10 years of construction management and engineering experience. • BA/BS in an engineering discipline; CA PE or CCM required. • Experience with Southern California public agencies and public works infrastructure. • Ability to travel regionally and work onsite in varying weather conditions. • Knowledge of federal, state, and local permitting regulations and codes (GreenBook, California Building Code, OSHA, MUTCD). • Proficiency with MS Office, SharePoint, and Primavera P6 scheduling software. • Strong written and verbal communication and technical expertise in public works.

Compensation includes a base salary of $165,000‑$180,000, with potential adjustments based on experience, and may include restricted stock units.
