About the Role
The Lead Commissioner role in Adelaide reports to the National Commissioning Manager and provides technical support, advice and mentoring on testing and commissioning throughout feasibility and estimating phases. Key duties include creating testing and commissioning sequences, estimating safe and efficient commissioning approaches, and producing documentation to improve Downer’s market win rate. The role also directs pre‑commissioning and commissioning of primary and secondary electrical apparatus on‑ and off‑site while ensuring contract compliance. • Create testing and commissioning sequences and documentation during feasibility/tender stages to improve win rates. • Direct pre‑commissioning and commissioning of primary and secondary electrical equipment on/off site, ensuring contract compliance. • Develop inspection, test, and commissioning plans and ensure procedures are followed and recorded. • Maintain workforce compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental and quality guidelines. • Provide proactive support and guidance to project, construction, and site managers and testers during delivery. • Complete project documentation and administration. • Travel to remote project sites across ACT, NSW, QLD, SA, VIC and other Australian locations.

What You Bring
Successful candidates hold a trade or engineering degree, with a Diploma of Power Systems being desirable, and are familiar with ElectraNet standards and substation work. They have extensive experience in field testing, protection testing, and performing Recipient‑In‑Charge duties for EAP and SFT, as well as sound knowledge of AS/NZ/ISO standards, commercial and procurement frameworks, and secondary electrical design. Strong communication skills, customer‑relationship management and willingness to travel to remote sites across Australia are also required. • Hold a trade or engineering degree; Diploma of Power Systems preferred. • Familiarity with ElectraNet standards and substation experience. • Experience performing Recipient‑In‑Charge duties for EAP and SFT. • Extensive field testing and commissioning experience, especially as a protection tester in substation/transmission environments. • Knowledge of relevant AS/NZ/ISO standards and legislation. • Understanding of commercial, subcontracting, and procurement frameworks. • Ability to interpret secondary electrical design. • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and public speaking skills. • Capability to manage customer relationships. • Willingness to work on various remote projects nationwide. • Safety‑focused culture with management support, training, and mentoring.
