Job Highlights
About the Role
This position reports to the Gas Operations Manager and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS). The GCCS consists of a series of extraction points known as wells, interconnected via piping. The collected gas is transported using gas conveyance equipment such as a fan or blower. Landfill gas (LFG) collected by this extraction system from the landfill's wellfield is combusted within a flare. Proper operation of the GCCS is required to comply with various State and Federal environmental regulations. The technician operates and maintains the GCCS to ensure regulatory compliance and optimize performance. Responsibilities include calibrating and maintaining electronic data devices, collecting and managing data, implementing the preventative maintenance plan, operating liquid‑management pumps, performing valve and vacuum adjustments, and maintaining PVC/HDPE piping. The role also requires completing WM Landfill Gas Technician I training, understanding relevant environmental regulations, following health and safety procedures, and being available for on‑call response to malfunctions. The role involves field work both inside a gas plant and outdoors in inclement weather, heat, and humidity. Reasonable accommodations are provided for individuals with disabilities. • Operate and maintain landfill gas collection and control systems (GCCS) to meet regulatory requirements. • Calibrate and manage electronic data collection devices for optimal LFG extraction. • Collect, enter, and interpret data from wellfield extraction and environmental monitoring points. • Implement and follow the GCCS preventative maintenance plan, including valve and vacuum adjustments. • Operate and troubleshoot liquid‑management pumps and pneumatic/electric systems. • Maintain PVC and HDPE piping and related equipment. • Respond on‑call to GCCS malfunctions and adhere to health and safety procedures.
