Senior Protection & Control Engineer
Design and optimise protection & control solutions for high‑voltage transmission projects

About the Role
The role will involve developing and optimising protection and control solutions, reviewing supplier designs for compliance with National Grid and client standards, and acting as Owner’s Engineer for high‑voltage, BESS and renewable projects. You will also conduct protection coordination studies using tools such as ETAP and collaborate closely with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure safe and reliable delivery. • Develop and optimise protection & control (P&C) solutions, including diagrams, relay settings, SCADA topology, and design specifications for transmission & distribution clients. • Review supplier designs for technical compliance with National Grid/Client policies and standards. • Act as Owner’s Engineer, reviewing and commenting on supplier designs and calculations for HV, BESS, and renewable projects. • Perform protection coordination studies and settings calculations using ETAP or similar software.

What You Bring
• Hold an electrical or power engineering qualification (HNC/HND, BSc/BEng, MSc/MEng). • Possess knowledge of transmission HV design processes (National Grid or SSE) and project experience. • Experience in P&C front‑end engineering or detailed design of 132 kV–400 kV installations. • Demonstrated team‑player attitude with a client‑focused mindset and strong communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects flexibly. • Strong background working with 275 kV/400 kV transmission voltages, preferably in consulting, utility, renewable generation or OEM environments.
