About the Role
The Designated Driver Trainer (DDT) serves a dual function at WM, operating a vehicle on an assigned route while also stepping in as a trainer to onboard and develop new drivers. The role ensures safe, efficient operations and provides coaching to improve driver performance and compliance with company and regulatory standards. In addition to regular driver duties, the DDT supports new and existing drivers through training, observation, and feedback. This includes reinforcing WM safety practices, documenting progress, and communicating performance data to management. • Operate assigned WM vehicle safely, performing all pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and waste/recycling collection. • Deliver on‑the‑job training and coaching on vehicle operation, defensive driving, and WM safety protocols. • Observe and evaluate driver performance, providing immediate constructive feedback and documenting progress. • Report driver performance metrics to the Route Manager and Onboarding Optimization Manager and recommend additional coaching. • Mentor drivers during role transition to build confidence and skill proficiency. • Maintain accurate training records, including strengths, improvement areas, and recommended next steps.

What You Bring
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Class A or B CDL with air‑brake endorsement, and at least two years of experience operating a WM vehicle. Preferred candidates possess recent military driving experience and prior supervisory, training, or coaching experience. The position requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, and handling, as well as constant sitting, talking, and hearing in both indoor garage or shop settings and outdoor conditions that may include inclement weather.
