About the Role
The landfill laborer’s primary responsibility is to maintain a clean and safe site, handling refuse, operating equipment, and directing traffic as required. The position requires adherence to local, state, federal, environmental, and health‑safety licensing regulations and the ability to meet physical demands such as lifting, walking, and operating machinery. • Manually collect windblown paper along landfill perimeter and load into large trash bags. • Operate a mobile vacuum mounted on a tractor to vacuum loose paper and refuse from fence and ground. • Direct truck traffic at the landfill entrance during peak summer periods using verbal and hand signals. • Lift and transport construction materials such as lumber, concrete mix bags, and operate hand tools including shovels, picks, axes, and chainsaws. • Separate metal, appliances, lumber, and cardboard on the tipping floor at the transfer station. • Meet physical demands of lifting, walking, and operating equipment in an outdoor landfill environment.
