About the Role

The role involves collecting water, wastewater and sludge samples from a variety of operational sites and customers, following Drinking Water Inspectorate, Environment Agency and ISO‑17025 standards. You will ensure samples accurately represent the source, consider household plumbing impacts, and maintain an overview of site security, effectiveness and potential defects. Key duties include performing scheduled sampling, handling customer queries, conducting on‑site analytical tests, registering data, reporting safety hazards and managing scientific equipment, as well as assessing sites for operational issues. • Undertake water, wastewater and sludge sampling in line with the schedule, ensuring careful adherence to procedures. • Perform customer sampling and handle related complaints. • Conduct on‑site analytical testing and quality checks to ISO‑17025, DWTS and MCERTS standards. • Execute emergency sampling during incidents and advise on water and wastewater quality issues. • Register samples onto the laboratory data system. • Manage administration associated with sampling and monitoring activities. • Report safety hazards identified during site visits. • Maintain scientific equipment and diagnose faults. • Assess operational sites for overall condition, defects and issues. • Provide empathetic, positive customer service; prior customer‑facing experience beneficial. • Work independently and make informed decisions regarding the sampling process.

What You Bring

The Water Quality Technician position is based in Sussex on a permanent contract, offering a salary of £27,820 for a 37‑hour week (Monday to Thursday 13:00‑21:00, Friday 13:00‑20:30). A full UK driving licence is required and a van will be provided. The ideal candidate can engage customers empathetically, has some customer‑facing experience, strong organisational skills and confidence using IT systems. A reliable vehicle, full UK licence and residence in Sussex are essential. • Demonstrate strong organisational abilities and confident use of IT systems. • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a reliable vehicle. • Reside within the Sussex area.
