About the Role
Interns will support a variety of engineering tasks to develop technical, social, and ethical skills, including assisting with routine bridge inspections, load ratings, and non‑destructive testing in North and South Carolina. Responsibilities also cover project research, field work, preliminary design calculations, preparation of final design plans, special provisions, cost estimates, and maintaining project documentation. Additional duties include completing training on assigned tasks, exercising responsible decision‑making regarding company resources, and performing any other responsibilities required by business needs. • Perform routine bridge inspections, load ratings, and non‑destructive testing in NC and SC. • Conduct field research, preliminary design calculations, and assist with final design plans and cost estimates. • Maintain project documentation and complete assigned training tasks. • Apply ethical decision‑making and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and safety policies.

The Southeast Bridge Inspection Team is seeking a Full‑Time Bridge Engineer Intern to work primarily out of the Mooresville, NC office, with Raleigh, NC and Columbia, SC also considered. Candidates must be actively enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering or related undergraduate program with an anticipated graduation date of December 2026 or May 2027, be at least 18 years old, and hold authorization to work in the United States. Required qualities include a demonstrated interest in civil/structural engineering, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to follow direction from mentors and managers, basic proficiency in technical writing and office software, and a proven commitment to workplace safety and WSP’s health, safety, and harassment policies. Preferred qualifications include enrollment in a master’s or PhD program, Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, interest in UAS drone operation, experience with Mathcad and SAP2000, and a willingness to work outdoors at heights of 40 ft or more, including rope work and SPRAT certification. Candidates with prior internship experience and campus leadership involvement are also favored. • Must be enrolled in an accredited Civil/Structural Engineering program (graduating Dec 2026‑May 2027) and authorized to work in the U.S. • Demonstrate strong communication, technical writing, and office software skills. • Preferred: graduate‑level enrollment, EIT certification, UAS drone operation, Mathcad/SAP2000 proficiency, and willingness to work at heights (40 ft+).

It is part of the WSP Summer Internship Program, a 12‑week schedule that begins on May 18, 2026, with flexibility in the exact start date.
