About the Role

In this position, the journeyman installs and services a wide range of pipework and associated equipment, ensuring proper selection, cutting, threading, bending, and fitting of both metal and non‑metal pipes. The role also involves mounting hangers, securing pipes to structures, and testing systems for leaks, as well as maintaining refrigeration and air‑conditioning components. • Select pipe type and size and related materials per specifications. • Inspect worksite for obstructions. • Plan installation sequence to avoid conflicts. • Cut pipe using appropriate tools (hacksaw, cutter, torch, machine). • Thread pipe with threading machine. • Bend pipe manually or with bending tools/machines. • Mount pipe hangers and brackets on walls/ceilings. • Assemble and install metal or non‑metal pipes and fittings using various joint methods. • Secure pipes to structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers. • Install and maintain refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, and controls. • Test piping systems for leaks by pressurizing and monitoring gauges. • Weld pipe supports to structural steel. • Observe production machines for malfunctions and operate machinery to verify repairs. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. • Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. • Use respiratory protection as required. • Observe and comply with all safety and project rules. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply shop mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings. • Compare and discern differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects.

What You Bring

The Journeyman role requires at least three years of documented field experience in a chosen craft discipline. The incumbent must be able to read and interpret instructions, and independently document, plan, and perform work activities. Responsibilities include laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and various production and processing systems. The job demands precise work within defined accuracy standards, decision‑making based on measurable criteria, and the application of shop mathematics to solve problems. Employees must plan tasks, choose appropriate tools, visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings, work confidently at heights, and distinguish subtle differences in size, shape, and form. Candidates typically need a high school diploma or equivalent combined with relevant field experience. They must possess knowledge of common concepts, practices, and procedures, rely on established guidelines, and operate under immediate supervision without extensive independent judgment. The role requires frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, and occasional sitting, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling loads up to 50 lb. Employees must frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, and finger components.
