About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Planner to support our expanding planning policy workload. The role will involve managing and assisting on key policy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and engaging directly with clients and stakeholders to achieve successful planning outcomes. The position is based in our London Aldgate Tower office, with hybrid working options and both full‑time and part‑time availability. • Lead and assist on key planning policy projects, including local authority policy development, strategic growth studies, and infrastructure strategies. • Provide strategic planning advice to clients and internal teams. • Develop and manage relationships with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders, representing AECOM at conferences and networking events. • Ensure projects are delivered on budget and within programme timelines, coordinating multidisciplinary teams for seamless execution. • Oversee quality assurance, health and safety compliance, and the deliverables produced by the planning policy team. • Contribute to business development by nurturing client relationships and preparing commercial tenders to secure new opportunities. • Produce high‑quality technical reports and communicate effectively, both independently and under pressure.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading planning policy and strategy, strong client‑focused interpersonal skills, and a business‑development mindset. Required qualifications include a degree in Town Planning or a related discipline and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent). • Possess significant experience leading and contributing to planning policy and strategy in consultancy or public‑sector roles. • Demonstrate strong client focus, interpersonal skills, and existing relationships with clients and local authorities. • Exhibit a business‑development mindset with a proven record of winning work and expanding client bases. • Hold a degree in Town Planning (or related discipline) and membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute or an equivalent professional body.
