About the Role
The Traffic & Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Manager role is based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and supports AECOM’s transportation business line. This position leads traffic‑related projects, oversees ITS design, and coordinates technical assignments across the department. Key responsibilities include managing traffic and ITS projects from concept through delivery, supervising junior staff, producing technical documents such as plans, specifications, estimates, reports, and presentations, and ensuring work meets schedule, budget, and AECOM quality standards. The manager also coordinates with internal discipline groups, external clients, and sub‑consultants, supports business development initiatives, and performs independent technical decision‑making with minimal supervision. • Manage traffic and ITS projects, including design, analysis, forecasting, safety studies, and simulation. • Supervise and mentor junior staff, reviewing technical work and project documentation. • Produce and deliver plans, specifications, estimates, reports, memoranda, and presentations. • Coordinate with internal discipline groups, external clients, and sub‑consultants to meet schedule and budget. • Lead business development efforts to capture new project opportunities. • Ensure compliance with AECOM quality standards while working under minimal supervision.

What You Bring
Minimum qualifications require a bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work. Preferred candidates have five or more years of civil engineering experience in traffic control design, traffic studies, or ITS engineering, a professional engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within six months, and proficiency with traffic simulation software and design platforms. Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. • Minimum: Bachelor's degree + 6 years relevant experience (or equivalent). • Preferred: 5+ years civil engineering experience in traffic control design, ITS, and DOT standards. • Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within 6 months. • Proficient in traffic and traffic simulation software and design platforms. • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and time‑management skills.
