Senior Civil Technologist
Design and develop substation civil works using CAD, 3D terrain modeling, and geospatial data.
Job Highlights
About the Role
The technologist will analyze geospatial data such as boundary surveys, LiDAR point clouds, and topographic maps, and will create 3D terrain models using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools. These models feed into detailed site‑development designs, including substation layout drawings, access roads, ditching, and drainage systems, all while ensuring compliance with municipal, provincial and environmental regulations. In addition to preparing comprehensive civil design packages, the role involves reviewing geotechnical reports, coordinating with consultants on foundation recommendations, and developing structural steel and foundation details that meet industry and utility specifications. The senior technologist also supports multidisciplinary teams across substation, transmission, and operations groups and conducts site visits to assess conditions and devise equipment modification solutions. • Analyze geospatial data (boundary surveys, LiDAR, topographic mapping). • Create 3D terrain models for site design using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related tools. • Prepare substation layout drawings in CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation). • Design access roads, ditching, site drainage, and overall site development. • Ensure designs comply with municipal, provincial, and environmental regulations. • Develop detailed civil design packages according to engineering specifications and standards. • Review geotechnical reports and coordinate with consultants on foundation recommendations. • Produce structural steel and foundation details following industry and utility specifications. • Support multidisciplinary teams across substation, transmission, and operations groups. • Conduct site visits to assess conditions and devise equipment modification solutions.
