About the Role
Key responsibilities include advanced use of HCSS estimating tools, detailed quantity take‑offs, and development of all‑inclusive cost estimates. The estimator analyzes crew composition, production rates, and equipment selection to calculate unit costs, prepares supplier bid packages, and coordinates junior estimators and interns throughout the take‑off and vendor solicitation processes. Discipline expertise covers mass earthwork and grading, geotechnical report review, and production analysis for equipment such as scrapers and excavators. It also includes identification of quarries for aggregates, production of PCCP paving and asphalt, and understanding of incentives, penalties, and performance work limits. For underground utilities, the role handles trench protection, shoring, equipment selection, and backfill pricing, while bridge and structure estimating involves falsework, post‑tensioning, crane selection, and precast erection. • Lead estimating for earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and bridge/structure projects on transit and civil infrastructure. • Prepare detailed take‑offs, solicit quotes, develop cost estimates, and close out bids. • Utilize advanced HCSS estimate entry tools and maintain cost‑history databases. • Perform quantity take‑offs and calculate unit costs based on crew, production rates, and equipment. • Review estimates with stakeholders and provide thorough explanations. • Prepare supplier bid packages and coordinate junior estimators and interns. • Review geotechnical reports, mass haul diagrams, and production rates for earthwork. • Identify suitable quarries and manage aggregate, PCCP, and asphalt production. • Develop trench protection, shoring, and backfill methods for underground utilities. • Specify falsework, formwork, post‑tensioning, and crane selection for bridges and structures. • Perform occasional climbing, lifting, and use of personal protective equipment; adhere to safety standards.

What You Bring
The Senior Estimator works with minimal oversight on preconstruction teams, often serving as the primary point of contact for the design team and the owner. This role leads all project delivery methods and demonstrates competence in both basic and advanced estimating functions across earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structural projects for transit, civil infrastructure, and highways. Candidates must be proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite and preferably hold LEED accreditation and DBIA certification or be willing to obtain them. A four‑year engineering degree or equivalent technical training combined with ten or more years of estimating experience is required, along with a proven track record as the primary point of contact for project teams. Physical duties may involve occasional climbing of stairs or ladders, lifting, pushing, or pulling objects, and frequent use of hands for grasping and handling. Employees must wear personal protective equipment, comply with safety standards, and be capable of standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods while performing tasks that could affect safety and health. • Proficient in Microsoft Office; preferred LEED and DBIA accreditation. • Minimum ten years estimating experience with a four‑year engineering degree or equivalent.
