About the Role

As an Electrical Field Engineer you will serve as the owner’s representative providing field inspections, construction quality assurance, and oversight of electrical testing and commissioning at multiple sites during various construction phases. Duties include completing checklists, following established processes, identifying code compliance issues and common deficiencies, escalating energization blockers, and documenting punch‑list items. Electrical systems are varied but include commercial facility power upgrades. You will actively participate in internal weekly program syncs and work closely with Project Managers to ensure field documentation and checklists are completed. During these syncs the team proactively reviews lessons learned, identifies program efficiencies, and aligns on the upcoming schedule to maintain client satisfaction. • Communicate overall project status to clients through discussions, presentations, and reports. • Manage site schedules, travel, client communications, and project budgets. • Engage with multiple onsite stakeholder groups while managing time effectively. • Inspect and verify low, medium (480 V), and high‑voltage electrical systems and oversee NETA vendor testing. • Assess power transformer test results (Doble, TTR, insulation resistance, etc.). • Oversee testing of electro‑mechanical and solid‑state relays. • Verify cable test results (Tan Delta, power factor, VLF, DC Hipot) provided by vendors. • Identify deficiencies, create punch‑list items, and ensure compliance with client processes. • Supervise automatic transfer switch troubleshooting. • Apply expertise with low, medium, and high‑voltage switchgear, circuit breakers, relay calibration, and power metering. • Attend customer sites promptly.

Electrical Field Engineer – Remote – This position is located in Southern California or Northern California (San Diego, Los Angeles, Irvine, or Bay Area/Walnut Creek). NV5 owner representatives act as a dedicated advocate, alleviating project complexities and mitigating risks effectively. Utilizing the latest project controls and project management software, they plan and monitor project performance, identifying deviations from the plan and implementing corrective actions in a timely, cost‑effective manner. Their expertise in strategic planning, cost estimation, project controls, and transition management ensures on‑time, within‑budget delivery to the highest quality standards, whether facilitating site assessments or coordinating facility shutdowns. • Travel 50‑75% across the United States for site walks and owner‑rep services. • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. • 5+ years of field electrical maintenance experience in EPC or similar commercial projects. • Ability to spot onsite deficiencies and energization blockers, recommend resolutions, and determine root cause. • Experience working with NETA‑qualified testing vendors and evaluating test pass/fail criteria. • Proficiency with medium‑voltage infrastructure and functional relay testing. • Capability to work in small teams and coordinate onsite activities during outages or power upgrades. • Skilled in developing and presenting findings to public or private entities. • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, Excel, Word, Adobe/Bluebeam, and Smartsheet. • Excellent communication skills.

Benefits

The position offers a base pay range of $100,000 to $130,000 per year, with potential adjustments based on knowledge, skills, experience, and location, plus possible restricted stock units and a full suite of medical, dental, life insurance, PTO, 401(k), and professional development benefits.
