About the Role
The Laborer is an entry‑level position responsible for construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas distribution infrastructure. This role involves physical labor to install gas infrastructure and related appurtenances, and may require travel to various work locations to meet Pike clients’ needs while delivering optimal customer service. The laborer must work safely performing new construction, maintenance, replacement, or repair of natural gas polyethylene or steel infrastructure, often around live gas systems and other utilities during hand‑digging activities. They are expected to protect utilities, property, the public, and coworkers while maintaining company vehicles, equipment, and tools in proper working order. • Perform new construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of natural gas polyethylene or steel infrastructure safely. • Hand‑dig, locate utilities, and work around live gas systems while protecting utilities and the public. • Operate shovels, pneumatic and engine‑driven equipment, and maintain hand tools, vehicles, and equipment. • Follow directions, work in teams, and adhere to safety and personal protective equipment requirements. • Identify materials used in gas infrastructure and assist with operator qualification tasks. • Travel to various job sites on short notice and work in all weather conditions. • Participate in Pike’s apprenticeship program (GI Bill benefits) and comply with DOT drug‑and‑alcohol testing.

What You Bring
Physical duties include rigorous labor such as using shovels, erecting road signs, and operating pneumatic and engine‑driven equipment, as well as understanding the proper use and maintenance of hand tools. The role requires teamwork, following directions, basic knowledge of materials used in natural gas infrastructure, and awareness of excavation, shoring, and PPE requirements. Minimum requirements include no prior experience, the ability to read and communicate effectively in English, a valid driver’s license (CDL preferred), and a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must be able to travel long distances on short notice, lift more than 50 lb, work extended periods in various locations, and be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays. The position demands regular standing, walking, talking, and use of hands, with exposure to dirt, fumes, airborne particles, moving equipment, and loud noise in outdoor weather conditions. Employees may encounter extreme site conditions and must follow safety rules, DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations, and company policies. • Lift over 50 lb and stand, walk, and use hands for extended periods. • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license (CDL preferred); read and communicate in English. • Be willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
