About the Role

The Roadway Engineer position supports urban and rural highway projects, working under a Project Manager to deliver designs that meet guidelines, standards, and specifications. As employee owners, HDR staff share responsibility for maintaining an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to bring their authentic selves to work every day. • Serve in a technical role under a Project Manager on urban and rural highway/roadway projects. • Support roadway designs and plan development per guidelines, standards, and specifications. • Oversee CAD Designers and possibly other EITs. • Prepare detailed engineering designs for roadway and highway projects. • Collaborate with Right‑of‑Way and pre‑construction staff. • Participate from site feasibility analysis through final design and construction phases. • Assume project‑management duties and interact with clients as needed. • Conduct right‑of‑way field reviews, meetings, and provide plan comments. • Identify and reconcile discrepancies between field conditions and plans. • Evaluate acquisition and relocation impacts of right‑of‑way plans. • Review title reports and compare them to plans. • Explain plans to co‑workers, landowners, displacees, the public, and during condemnation. • Review legal descriptions and prepare ROW exhibits. • Coordinate with drainage, utilities, and environmental teams. • Produce and interpret ROW plans. • Perform QA/QC of roadway and ROW plans.

What You Bring
• Minimum 3 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design and right‑of‑way. • Understand TDOT’s Plan Development process. • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field. • Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) for the job location. • Hands‑on experience with highway CAD software (Bentley ConceptStation, OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk InfraWorks, Civil 3D). • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. • Strong communication and organizational skills. • Experience with urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, concept alignments, geometric layout, and CAD base alignment plans.
