Job Highlights
About the Role
The welder selects pipe size, materials and equipment, plans layouts and welding procedures, and executes welding using various arc processes. They position, align, and fit components, bolt, clamp and weld metal parts in all positions, and perform tasks such as electrode preparation, arc striking, filler application, cleaning, repair, removal of excess weld, pre‑heating and cutting. Additional duties include material handling, assisting with lifting, minor tool maintenance, and adhering to safety and certification requirements. • Select pipe size, materials, and equipment according to specifications. • Perform welding with SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, GMAW, SAW, or other arc processes. • Align, position, and fit components in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions. • Prepare electrodes, strike arc, and manually guide the gun to achieve proper fusion and bead. • Apply filler rod, clean weld joints, and degrease workpieces with brushes, grinders or chemicals. • Repair cracked parts, fill holes, and remove excess weld material using gouges or grinders. • Load, transport, and unload materials, tools, and equipment; assist in lifting and positioning. • Perform minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment; assist other mechanics. • Observe and comply with all safety, project rules, and certification standards. • Work within precise accuracy limits and standards. • Make decisions based on measurable criteria. • Apply basic mathematics to solve problems. • Plan work and select proper tools. • Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.

What You Bring
The Tube welder is capable of certifying on multi‑process tubes and proficient in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW welding processes, possibly requiring x‑ray qualifications. They layout, align and weld fabricated, cast and forged components to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings and pipe according to blueprints and metallurgy. Candidates must work within precise accuracy limits, make decisions using measurable criteria, apply basic mathematics, plan work and select proper tools, and visualize three‑dimensional objects from drawings. Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting and carrying up to 35 lb, as well as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and reaching, with varying frequency. • Plan layouts and welding procedures using knowledge of geometry and metal properties. • Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components of piping systems, plates, and structural shapes. • Preheat workpieces with torch or furnace and cut metal plates or structural shapes.
