About the Role

The Director of EHS Programs & Training is a strategic leader responsible for developing and implementing enterprise‑wide environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs and training initiatives at Republic Services. The incumbent drives consistency, innovation, and measurable impact across the organization by fostering a strong safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing operational excellence. Collaboration with operations leadership, HR, safety champions, and field staff ensures seamless program execution. The role shapes and implements EHS strategies that align with corporate values, vision, and sustainability goals while leading the EHS team and promoting a culture of safety and continuous improvement. It monitors and translates federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) to ensure policy compliance and develops actionable training and controls. Documentation and training records are maintained to support audits and compliance. Design, standardization, and implementation of scalable, risk‑based EHS programs cover safety, compliance, hazardous materials, and emergency response. The Director partners with Learning & Development and Communications to align messaging and delivery with branding and culture standards. Investigations of major incidents are led to ensure root‑cause analysis, regulatory‑compliant reporting, and timely corrective actions. Serving as a key liaison between corporate and field teams, the Director integrates EHS programs into operational workflows and long‑term planning. Transformation is driven by proactive leadership engagement, cross‑functional collaboration, and a shared commitment to continuous improvement and accountability. Innovation is advanced by benchmarking best practices, piloting new programs, adopting new technology, and enhancing training accessibility across a dispersed workforce. The Director creates and manages the EHS Programs and Training budget to ensure cost‑effective use of resources for equipment, training, and audits that support strategic goals. Coaching and development of a professional team, performance monitoring, and improvement initiatives ensure service levels meet or exceed standards. Additional non‑essential duties may be assigned as needed.
