About the Role

As a Principal Consultant in the Environmental Consents team you will play a vital role navigating the evolving consenting landscape for energy and electricity infrastructure. You will lead environmental teams, provide strategic planning, environmental advice and technical studies, and deliver services such as planning applications, Environmental Impact Assessments, route optioneering, site selection, stakeholder engagement and support for DCO examinations and planning inquiries. You will be responsible for managing projects end‑to‑end, including bidding, team leadership, financial control and health‑and‑safety performance. The role also involves building client relationships, identifying resourcing and strategy opportunities, preparing proposals and contributing to business development. You will support innovation through Digital EIA and future‑ready techniques, mentor junior colleagues and champion an inclusive workplace. • Lead environmental assessments (EA/EIA) for energy transmission, distribution, hydrogen and CCUS projects. • Manage end‑to‑end project delivery, including bidding, financial control, quality and health & safety performance. • Develop and submit planning applications, route optioneering, site selection and support DCO examinations. • Build client relationships, identify resourcing and strategy opportunities, and contribute to business development proposals. • Drive innovation through Digital EIA, Technical Excellence and Future Ready EIA initiatives. • Mentor and upskill junior colleagues. • Promote an inclusive workplace and adhere to health, safety and wellbeing culture.

What You Bring

The successful candidate will hold a relevant environmental degree and be working towards Chartered Environmental status with IEMA or an equivalent body. You must have extensive EIA experience within multidisciplinary teams, sound knowledge of environmental and planning legislation, strong written and verbal communication skills and a proven track record on large‑scale infrastructure projects. Comprehensive project‑management abilities—including commercial, risk, forecasting and quality assurance—are essential. • Hold an environmental degree and work towards Chartered Environmental status (IEMA or equivalent). • Demonstrate extensive EIA experience within multidisciplinary teams and knowledge of relevant legislation. • Possess strong project management, commercial, risk and quality assurance skills. • Experience on large‑scale infrastructure projects (rail, highways, energy, commercial/residential).
