About the Role

The operative will deliver high‑quality repairs and maintenance across a range of trades, ensuring residents’ homes are safe, functional and well‑cared for. The role involves responding to day‑to‑day repair requests, adapting quickly, problem‑solving and providing excellent customer service in occupied properties. • Perform responsive repairs on NHS properties, including carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating. • Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves, internal doors, handles, locks and hinges. • Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops and cupboard doors. • Fix minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps and blocked sinks. • Carry out patch plastering and make good damaged walls or ceilings. • Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing. • Paint and decorate to a professional finish after repairs. • Work safely in occupied homes, respecting residents’ privacy and sensitivities. • Participate in out‑of‑hours emergency repair rota as needed. • Record job details, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets.

What You Bring

All candidates must have the right to work in the UK, a full UK driving licence and must pass background, identity and security checks. Mears is committed to diversity and inclusion, supporting the Armed Forces Covenant and promoting social mobility. • Proven experience in multi‑trade repairs and maintenance (carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating). • Full UK driving licence with clean record (under 9 points) and age over 21. • Ability to work independently, manage workload and meet service level targets. • Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving skills. • Excellent customer service experience in occupied homes. • Good knowledge of health and safety regulations and safe working practices.

Benefits

Mears Group is offering a full‑time, permanent Multi‑Skilled Operative role based in Sevenoaks, Tunbridge and Ashford, with an annual salary up to £36,926.07 (up to £34,000 plus company van and fuel card). The position works a 42.5‑hour week (8‑5 Monday‑Friday) and supports a responsive repairs contract for NHS properties in Maidstone. Mears offers 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, an annual fun day, paid volunteering leave, and staff discounts through Mears Rewards.
