About the Role
The director will provide strategic regional leadership, ensure project delivery aligns with scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and contractual requirements, and serve as a senior representative of Willdan with clients, contractors, designers, and public agencies. They will also support business development, mentor staff, drive technical excellence, and champion continuous improvement across all construction management activities. • Champion proactive safety culture and ensure OSHA, NYC DOB, and client safety compliance. • Uphold Willdan policies, ethical standards, and professional conduct. • Provide strategic regional leadership for NYC construction management services, aligning with company objectives. • Collaborate with the VP of Construction on delivery, staffing, and client priorities. • Establish project priorities, staffing plans, and allocate resources across active assignments. • Represent Willdan with clients, contractors, designers, and public agencies. • Support business development through proposals, pursuits, and client relationship management. • Lead design‑build and EPC best practices, including early constructability input and risk allocation. • Oversee a portfolio of 5‑10 concurrent projects ($2M‑$50M) ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and contractual compliance. • Manage project controls: schedules, budgets, forecasts, cost reporting, change management, risk mitigation, and claims avoidance. • Ensure consistent use of project management and reporting tools across CM projects. • Serve as escalation point for complex issues, client concerns, and contractual matters. • Act as trusted advisor to clients throughout planning, design, construction, and closeout phases. • Lead high‑level meetings with owners, contractors, designers, regulators, and internal stakeholders. • Maintain and strengthen long‑term client relationships to support repeat business. • Lead, mentor, and develop construction management staff, setting performance expectations and providing coaching. • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and technical expertise; partner with HR for recruitment and retention. • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and safety‑focused team culture. • Provide technical leadership on means and methods, constructability, phasing, logistics, and site coordination. • Ensure compliance with contract documents, drawings, specifications, codes, and regulations. • Oversee quality control/assurance processes and support change order and claim resolution. • Drive continuous improvement in project controls, delivery methods, and emerging construction technologies. • Deliver high‑quality construction management services exceeding client expectations. • Oversee multiple projects while managing risk, safety, schedule, and quality. • Develop and retain a high‑performing construction management team. • Support regional revenue goals through effective delivery and client satisfaction. • Communicate proactively with the VP of Construction, clients, and project teams. • Uphold Willdan’s standards for safety, ethics, professionalism, and technical excellence.

This position leads and oversees Willdan’s construction management services across NYC and the surrounding metro area, focusing on public sector, higher education, healthcare, and complex institutional facilities. The director will be accountable for a portfolio of approximately five to ten concurrent projects, with individual values typically ranging from $2 million to $50 million, delivered through design‑bid‑build, design‑build, and EPC models involving complex mechanical, HVAC, energy, and infrastructure upgrades. The role demands a proven construction professional with strong technical knowledge, exceptional client‑facing skills, and demonstrated success in managing teams, stakeholders, schedules, budgets, safety, and risk within the New York City construction environment. • Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. • Minimum ten years progressive construction management experience, including NYC projects. • Strong knowledge of MEP systems, HVAC, energy infrastructure, and occupied building systems. • Experience with design‑bid‑build, design‑build, and EPC delivery; DBIA certification preferred. • Professional certifications such as PE, CCM, PMP, DBIA preferred. • Deep familiarity with NYC construction practices, permitting, safety, and regulatory environment. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for senior executives, public officials, and field personnel. • OSHA Site Safety Training credentials required or ability to obtain. • Ability to travel throughout the NYC region.
