About the Role

Lead Drivers act as substitutes for open‑route drivers, supporting route completion and providing operational assistance as directed by the Route Manager. They train, retrain, and mentor new and existing drivers, and participate in routing projects and developmental programs. • Provide on‑the‑job training for new drivers and retrain drivers reassigned or with performance issues. • Observe, coach, and mentor drivers to ensure safety and performance standards. • Operate vehicles in compliance with WM safety rules, OSHA, DOT, and all applicable laws. • Conduct pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and complete DVIR documentation. • Report unsafe conditions, incidents, accidents, property damage, and service interruptions to the Route Manager or Dispatch. • Communicate customer requests and coordinate with Operations Manager or Dispatch. • Identify, report, and track containers needing repair or replacement. • Follow route assignments, complete end‑of‑day documentation, and assist other drivers as needed. • Maintain training records for all driver training activities.

What You Bring

The position may require travel by air, so candidates must possess a REAL ID or an acceptable TSA‑approved alternative, or be willing to obtain one. • Required: 5 years CDL experience (Class A or B with air‑brake), or recent military driving; at least 18 years old; legal work eligibility. • Preferred: High school diploma or GED.
