About the Role
Mortenson is seeking a MEP Project Engineer I who will provide analysis, management, and resolution for Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) field coordination issues with project team members and participants. The role involves collaborating with subcontractors, craft personnel, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution. The engineer will support both pre‑construction and construction phases across Mortenson’s diverse portfolio. • Interpret project plans, specifications, and details for subcontractors and craft persons; implement pre‑construction quality plan and obtain/maintain construction permits. • Develop and maintain material tracking, test and inspection lists, non‑conformance reports, and equipment coordination matrices; manage contract documents and lead 3‑D coordination. • Establish electronic document handling procedures for RFIs and correspondence; support project closeout processes. • Manage testing and inspection processes for construction quality, implement three‑phase inspection system, and assist commissioning. • Manage submittals: set up register, prepare transmittals, coordinate processing, expedite deliveries, and communicate details to subcontractors and suppliers. • Provide periodic submittal register updates to customer/architect; coordinate subcontractor details, verify insurance, prepare paperwork, and request final payment; lead closeout activities. • Develop and distribute RFIs and Change Orders; post revisions to as‑built documents and incorporate subcontractor as‑built documentation. • Determine alternative work methods, coordinate safety and compliance, maintain schedule, and build relationships with diverse teams.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related experience. • Minimum one year of construction experience, preferably with a mechanical or electrical contractor. • Current driver’s license. • Detail‑oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple project tasks. • Basic understanding of construction law and business practices. • Strong teamwork, initiative, communication, problem‑solving, and leadership skills. • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, project software, and web applications. • Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills. • Ability to interpret and communicate Mortenson policies and actively listen to diverse input. • Ability to travel up to 100 %. • Visa sponsorship not offered; must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

Benefits
The base salary for this position ranges from $84,100 to $113,500, with higher ranges for specific locations such as Denver, Chicago (+5 %), Seattle and Portland (+10 %), and Washington, D.C. (+12.5 %). Salary placement considers knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. The role also qualifies for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Postings typically remain open for a minimum of five days and an average of forty‑four days.
