About the Role

In this position you will design and substantiate pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and pipework installations to stringent safety constraints (ASME III/VIII standards) for the Royal Navy’s nuclear submarine fleet. Responsibilities include delivering full life‑cycle design solutions, integrating cross‑discipline engineering concepts, documenting and verifying designs, presenting at technical reviews, and publishing safety and technical reports for customer and regulatory scrutiny. • Design and substantiate pumps, valves, pressure vessels, and pipework to ASME III/VIII standards for nuclear submarines. • Deliver full life‑cycle solutions from concept through manufacture, operation, and disposal. • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and supply‑chain teams to integrate cross‑discipline concepts. • Produce and present technical and safety reports for customer and regulator review. • Create CAD models and documentation following sound mechanical engineering practices.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate is an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with exposure to process plant equipment, pressure vessels, boilers, or assembly processes, and proficiency in CAD design software. An engineering qualification (Chartered, degree, HND/HNC, or apprenticeship) and strong organisational and time‑management skills are required. Desirable experience includes ASME Section III/VIII or PD5500 pressure‑vessel design and authoring technical reports, with background possible in civil nuclear, marine, defence, aerospace, petro‑chemical, oil & gas, special purpose machinery, or automotive sectors. Applicants must obtain a UK security clearance (supported by Rolls‑Royce) and be a UK national or MoD‑approved dual national.
