About the Role

The engineer will be responsible for structural analysis and design of transportation structures, including bridges and retaining walls, across all project phases—from concept through construction. Duties include developing plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates, coordinating with other disciplines and clients, and utilizing OpenBridge software. • Perform structural analysis and design of bridges and retaining walls throughout all project phases. • Develop preliminary and final plans, specifications, quantity take‑offs, and cost estimates. • Coordinate design efforts with multidisciplinary teams, sub‑consultants, and clients. • Utilize OpenBridge and other design software (MicroStation, MDX) to produce accurate models. • Prepare technical reports and presentations to convey findings and recommendations. • Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. • Maintain quality‑control standards, data integrity, and accurate statistical reporting. • Mentor and train entry‑level engineers, providing guidance on QA/QC procedures. • Interact professionally with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and stakeholders. • Collaborate on federal, state, regional, and private infrastructure projects and business development opportunities. • Stay current with emerging structural engineering techniques and best practices. • Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, ethical decision‑making, and safety policies. • Manage small‑ to medium‑size projects, tracking hours and expenses. • Apply critical thinking and problem‑solving skills to deliver economical and logical solutions. • Maintain a strong safety record and comply with health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.

What You Bring

Successful candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering, possess five to seven years of relevant experience, and have Engineer‑in‑Training certification with the ability to obtain an NC PE. They must demonstrate proficiency in structural principles, project management, technical writing, and design tools such as MicroStation and OpenBridge, as well as strong communication and leadership skills. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering and 5‑7 years of relevant experience. • Hold Engineer‑in‑Training certification and be eligible for NC Professional Engineer licensure. • Demonstrate proficiency in project management, technical writing, and communication with both engineering and non‑engineering audiences. • Ability to travel as project requirements dictate and work flexible schedules beyond standard hours. • Preferred: Master’s degree in engineering, experience with NCDOT bridge design, and active participation in professional organizations.
