About the Role

Upholds safety compliance standards inherent in PSE’s operating and field procedures and promotes a culture of total safety. • Interprets and/or modifies available guidelines for application to existing problems or processes. • Prepares complex designs, standards, studies and analyses. • Provides a detailed design review of internal or external technical documents. • Prepares cost estimates and project evaluations without direct supervision. • Plans and develops project budgets with appropriate documentation. • Ensures compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements. • Identifies potential areas of weakness with assigned work, and initiates corrective action. • Documents and shares work with others to strengthen the depth and breadth of skills within PSE’s engineering workforce. • Communicates solutions to personnel possessing a wide variety of educational and employment backgrounds, including in public forums in both verbal and written forms. • Ensures that problem solutions are tailored to PSE’s business environment. • Supports emergency response work as requested including immediate and extended restoration efforts driven by weather and other system failures. • May lead or coordinate the work of junior engineers, engineering assistants, field technicians, and others who assist on specific projects. What You Bring

PSE's Engineering Operations team is seeking qualified candidates for an open Senior Civil Engineer position. Specific details regarding work arrangements will be discussed during the interview process. This position requires substantial experience developing civil permit and construction drawings for land development associated with new and existing substations, including grading plans, storm drainage, erosion control, and other civil elements. A working understanding of state and local storm‑water regulations, building codes, and industry standards is essential. The successful candidate should be well‑versed in civil calculations, reports, technical specifications, cost estimates, and supporting permitting and construction phases. Effective verbal and written communication to diverse audiences is desirable, and basic knowledge of electrical substation assembly and safe design practices is a plus. The engineer must possess extensive experience in civil and structural engineering topics related to substation design and construction, often requiring interpretation of requirements, advanced analytical techniques, and non‑standard solutions. Flexibility to handle shifting budgets and priorities, resilience to change, and a personality that promotes optimism and synergy are required. Demonstrates commitment to conduct business honestly, ethically, and in line with core values and the Code of Conduct, ensuring duties are performed in accordance with all regulatory compliance obligations. This job is considered “safety sensitive” under RCW 49.44.240 and is subject to pre‑employment drug screening that includes testing for marijuana and its metabolites. • Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil or other appropriate engineering field. • Substantial experience in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating and scheduling (typically after 8+ years practice as a degreed engineer). • Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project management skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. • Experience working in the utility industry. • Possession of a Professional Engineering license. • Knowledge of engineering economics and utility accounting practices. • Experience working on complex engineering projects.
