About the Role
The successful candidate will lead the development of climate‑change, sustainability and social‑value strategies for individual projects, ensuring agreed outcomes are achieved. They will act as a technical sustainability expert, championing innovation in areas such as waste, energy, water or responsible sourcing, while also providing generalist support across all major sustainability issues with stakeholders. In addition to project work, the role supports bid development, client liaison and raises Mace’s external profile in sustainability services. The individual will contribute to positioning Mace as a leader in climate change and sustainability. The person will champion sustainability throughout the organisation, develop and communicate innovation and best practice, adapt EMS practices across areas, and support business‑savvy bid activities. Building positive relationships with clients, design teams, contractors, sub‑contractors and regulators is also required. • Lead creation and delivery of climate, sustainability, and social value strategies on projects. • Act as the technical sustainability expert, promoting innovation in waste, energy, water, responsible sourcing, and related areas. • Provide proactive generalist support across all major sustainability issues with relevant stakeholders. • Support bid development, client liaison, and raise Mace’s profile in sustainability services. • Contribute to positioning Mace as a leader in climate‑change and sustainability initiatives. • Guide design teams to address environmental constraints and maximise positive benefits. • Translate technical concepts into lay language and communicate the value of sustainability clearly. • Represent Mace at industry forums, client presentations, and working groups. • Champion sustainability, drive behavioural change, and disseminate best practices across the business. • Adapt EMS best practices across disciplines and simplify reporting processes. • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, design teams, contractors, sub‑contractors, and regulators.

What You Bring
Applicants must possess extensive knowledge of sustainable building design, including embodied and operational carbon and NZC strategies, and a proven track record of guiding design teams to maximise environmental benefits. Expertise in at least one sustainability discipline, strong communication skills to translate technical topics for non‑technical audiences, and the ability to represent Mace at forums and client meetings are essential. • Demonstrate deep knowledge of sustainable building design, embodied and operational carbon, and NZC strategies. • Possess expertise in at least one sustainability domain such as waste, water, energy, carbon, or biodiversity. • Apply strong business acumen to bid support and work‑winning activities.
