About the Role

Boilermakers construct iron and steel structures according to project specifications. They are responsible for building Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) units and other miscellaneous structures for new construction projects. Key duties include reading blueprints and specifications to determine material quantities, identifying necessary tools, and assessing safety risks. Boilermakers fabricate, cut, bend, and weld steel components, then hoist and rig them into position using cranes or bull rigs. They verify alignment of structural members with plumb bobs, lasers, and levels, and secure columns, beams, and girders with bolts or rivets following detailed instructions. • Read and interpret blueprints, IFC drawings, and specifications to define work scope and material needs. • Identify required tools and safety hazards, implementing precautions before commencing tasks. • Fabricate, cut, bend, and weld steel components according to drawings and supervisor directions. • Hoist and rig steel members using cranes, bull rigs, and approved rigging techniques. • Align and secure columns, beams, and girders with bolts, ensuring proper vertical and horizontal positioning using plumb bobs, lasers, and levels. • Perform bolting, riveting, and torque/tension verification following standard procedures. • Lead erection and fabrication crews, assigning tasks and overseeing safe execution. • Select appropriate slings, chokers, and knots for rigging operations. • Utilize specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skid‑more devices, magnetic drills, and Hogan drills. • Apply basic welding methods (MIG, stick, gas) and maintain welding equipment. • Conduct calculations for footage, torque values, and material layout. • Inspect and maintain equipment like JLG man baskets and cranes.

Key Responsibilities

  • blueprint reading
  • steel fabrication
  • rigging operations
  • structural alignment
  • bolting verification
  • crew leadership

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least four years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or a comparable role, preferably with HRSG and gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit experience. Applicants must meet all knowledge, skill, and ability requirements, be physically capable of working at heights over 300 ft, and possess required tools and reliable transportation. Successful candidates must also pass pre‑employment screenings, including physicals, drug tests, and motor vehicle records. The role requires strong leadership to guide steel erection, fabrication, and rigging crews, as well as the ability to perform all craft trade responsibilities. Professionals must interpret IFC drawings, create hang lists, understand engineering change notices, and know when to issue RFIs. Proficiency in safe rigging practices, bolting, torque‑tension calculations, and the use of specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skid‑more devices, and magnetic drills is essential. Basic welding knowledge, equipment maintenance, and mathematical skills for layout and measurement are also required. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees, hold NCCER certification for Industrial Journeyman Carpenter, and possess formal technical education. Prior experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc. is advantageous. The position demands extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb, as well as work at elevations using ladders, platforms, and man lifts. Workers must adhere to fall protection protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, vests, gloves, and leather boots. • Comply with PPE requirements and fall protection when working at heights over 300 ft.
