About the Role

In this role you will perform design engineering and provide system design support, coordinating closely with all MEP disciplines to ensure well‑integrated designs while consulting with clients, architects, vendors, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction. You will conduct field surveys, system assessments, and commissioning, attend coordination meetings and site visits, perform calculations, produce clear drawings that meet client and firm standards, apply ICC, NFPA, NYC and other codes, conduct peer reviews, and provide QA/QC oversight, as well as assist business development by expanding client relationships and cross‑selling Syska services. • Perform design engineering and support MEP coordination for plumbing and fire protection systems. • Conduct field surveys, system assessments, and commissioning activities. • Attend coordination meetings and site visits to ensure design integration. • Perform calculations and produce clear drawings per client and firm standards. • Apply ICC, NFPA, NYC and other codes; interpret code requirements. • Conduct peer reviews and provide QA/QC oversight. • Develop fire safety plans, smoke and egress modeling, and designs for fire alarm, sprinkler, VESDA, and clean‑agent systems. • Assist business development by expanding client relationships and cross‑selling services. • Use AutoCAD‑MEP and Revit to develop technical designs. • Participate in a 401(k) plan with employer match and professional development incentives.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Plumbing‑Fire Protection Engineer to join our New York, NY office. The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, at least eight years of fire protection and fire alarm design experience, strong knowledge of ICC, NFPA and NYC codes, NICET certification (or ability to obtain within two years), and the ability to secure federal security clearance, travel to project sites, and work independently or in teams in a fast‑paced environment. • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering. • Possess 8+ years of fire protection and fire alarm design experience. • Maintain NICET certification (or obtain within 2 years) and knowledge of NYC codes. • Obtain multistate licensure and security clearance as required. • Communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through presentations.
