About the Role

The Boilermaker will construct iron and steel structures to specifications, focusing on the construction of a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG) and other miscellaneous structures for a new construction project. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints and specifications to determine material needs, identifying required tools, assessing safety risks, fabricating equipment per drawings or supervisor directions, rigging and hoisting equipment with bull rigs or cranes, verifying alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels, and connecting columns, beams, and girders with bolts or rivets. The role also involves cutting, bending, and welding iron/steel pieces using shears, torches, and welding equipment. • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and IFC drawings to determine material quantities and locations. • Identify and gather all tools and equipment required for each task. • Conduct safety risk assessments and implement precautions before work begins. • Fabricate steel components according to drawings or supervisor instructions. • Rig and hoist equipment using bull rigging or crane to designated locations. • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural members with plumb bobs, lasers, transits, or levels. • Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces using shears, torches, and welding equipment. • Lead steel erection, grid layout, and rigging operations. • Apply correct rigging practices, knots, and sling selections. • Perform bolting procedures with proper torque and tension calculations. • Utilize specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skidmore devices, magnetic drills, and hammer drills. • Execute welding setups (MIG, stick, gas) and cutting torch operations safely. • Operate and conduct basic maintenance on JLG man baskets and cranes. • Perform required math calculations for footage and material measurements.

What You Bring

Candidates must have at least four years of experience as a Boilermaker Helper, Boilermaker Ironworker, or a comparable role such as a structural fitter with HRSG experience, including work on a gas‑fired combined‑cycle power unit HRSG. They must possess all required knowledge, skills, and abilities, meet physical requirements, work at heights over 300 ft, have necessary tools and reliable transportation, and pass pre‑employment contingencies such as physicals, drug screening, and motor vehicle records. Required qualifications encompass leadership in steel erection, fabrication, and rigging; ability to perform all craft trade duties; proficiency in reading IFC drawings, cut sheets, and craft specifications; knowledge of rigging practices, knots, bolting procedures, torque versus tension, and the use of specialty tools such as torque wrenches, skidmore devices, magnetic and hammer drills. Basic welding and cutting knowledge, equipment operation (e.g., JLG man baskets, cranes), routine maintenance, and strong math skills for footage calculations are also essential, along with a willingness to undertake additional duties as assigned. Preferred candidates are current or former Zachry employees, hold NCCER certification for Industrial Journeyman Carpenter, and possess formal or technical education. Physical requirements include extensive standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting up to 50 lb; communication by voice and signal; work at heights using ladders, stairways, platforms, and man lifts with appropriate fall protection; and wearing required personal protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators, safety vests, gloves, and leather work boots. • Bolt, rivet, or otherwise secure columns, beams, and girders per specifications.
