About the Role
The engineer will help perform capacity analyses, develop design concepts, and contribute to roadway, traffic pattern, and signal timing projects while producing accurate documentation that meets industry standards for safety and functionality. Under general supervision, the incumbent will collect and analyze site data, conduct inspections of roadways and signage, and provide entry‑level technical support for traffic studies, capacity analyses, signal design, and traffic counts. They will also generate concise reports, adhere to safety guidelines, and complete required training. • Collect, compile, and analyze data from surveys, GIS, blueprints, and site observations for project design and construction. • Perform basic traffic engineering tasks such as capacity analyses, traffic counts, and signal timing studies. • Inspect existing roadways, intersections, signage, and pavement markings to ensure compliance with standards and permits. • Provide technical assistance for traffic plan reviews, complaint investigations, and operations analysis. • Produce accurate documentation and field logs using electronic systems. • Follow safety guidelines, site‑specific procedures, and WSP’s Code of Conduct. • Complete assigned training and contribute to additional tasks as business needs require.

What You Bring
WSP is seeking a full‑time Early Career Traffic Engineer for its Washington, DC office. The role supports local technical assistance for the analysis, design, and operation of streets, highways, and related transportation networks. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering, has up to one year of post‑graduation experience, and demonstrates strong analytical, communication, and self‑leadership skills. Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, technical writing, and relevant transportation regulations is required; an Engineer‑in‑Training certification and prior internship are preferred. • Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, 0‑1 year relevant experience, strong research and analytical skills, proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation, and effective communication. • Preferred: Engineer‑in‑Training certification, prior related internship, active participation in professional organizations.
