About the Role
• Provide leadership for the Nebraska/Iowa mechanical engineering team, emphasizing technical excellence, quality, recruiting, and staff development. • Collaborate with market sector leaders to ensure technical excellence across commercial, civic, industrial, federal, water, transportation, healthcare, education, laboratory, and mission‑critical facilities. • Engage with clients and community stakeholders. • Participate in marketing, planning, proposal development, and interviews in key markets. • Promote HDR and its Mechanical Engineering practice within the engineering and architecture community, including conference participation. • Serve as design lead or engineering project manager on key projects. • Assist with mechanical work‑group operations, covering staff development, profitability, morale, and quality control. • Ensure work is planned, organized, controlled, checked, and evaluated through proactive project management. • Implement, monitor, and support company policy. • Cooperate with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business class initiatives. • Participate in work‑sharing and mechanical practice development with HDR’s nationwide network of engineers. • Actively engage in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand.

What You Bring
We are searching for the Area Mechanical Business Class Lead for our downtown Chicago office. • Hold a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical emphasis. • Local candidate preference. • Bachelor’s degree in a professional, architecture, engineering, or related field. • Minimum of 10 years of experience. • Maintain a professional or engineering registration with related technical experience. • Experience developing and managing diverse teams. • Demonstrated attitude and commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture.
