About the Role
In this leadership role you will oversee the UK MOD Enterprise accounts, establishing business strategies, objectives and financial outcomes while ensuring collaboration with internal units such as commercial, work‑winning, and strategic marketing. You will build and maintain relationships with counterparts across AECOM’s global geographies, including the US DoD, to support major defence equipment programmes. You will shape the regional defence growth strategy, define targets, and prioritize pursuits in partnership with operating unit leaders and client account managers. Responsibilities include driving business development, winning strategic contracts, managing the sales pipeline, coordinating capture teams, and applying rigorous Go/No‑Go decision processes. Collaboration with Marketing to create targeted campaigns and with regional teams to evaluate long‑, medium‑ and short‑term MOD opportunities is essential. • Lead UK MOD Enterprise accounts, set strategy and financial targets. • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders and global defence counterparts. • Develop and execute regional defence growth and business development strategy. • Drive business development, win strategic pursuits, and manage the sales pipeline. • Coordinate capture teams, conduct Go/No‑Go assessments, and support marketing campaigns. • Provide senior leadership with deep UK MOD knowledge and strong customer engagement. • Secure $5‑20 million defence contracts and navigate MOD frameworks successfully. • Leverage an extensive network of UK MOD, OEMs, and senior government stakeholders. • Work hybrid with flexibility to operate from office, remote, or client sites.

The Business Development – Account Director will join the Defence Leadership Team, reporting to the Head of Defence UK, Europe & India, and will be responsible for expanding AECOM’s presence as a partner of choice for the UK MOD. The role requires an active UK Security Clearance or the ability to obtain one, and may involve travel to London and other UK offices. The ideal candidate is an outstanding senior leader with extensive UK MOD experience, strong strategic insight, and high emotional intelligence. You must have deep knowledge of UK defence agencies, frameworks and OEMs, a proven record of securing $5‑20 million contracts, and a robust network of senior MOD and industry stakeholders. Demonstrated sales production metrics, business development strategy skills, and the ability to craft compelling value propositions are required.
