About the Role

The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for developing new and modified electrical diagrams and creating electrical and control system designs for prototypes and new HVAC products. This role determines component specifications, collaborates with electrical and mechanical designers to ensure seamless system integration, and provides design guidance and oversight to other electrical designers. Key responsibilities include evaluating and troubleshooting electrical/controls products for proper function and safety, coordinating part shortages, building test fixtures and prototypes, and creating cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. The engineer reads schematics, establishes testing, operation, maintenance, and repair procedures, implements engineering change notices, supports production during prototypes and initial production, and prepares As‑Built documentation while staying current with local and national electrical codes such as UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA. • Develop and modify electrical diagrams and control system designs for prototypes and new HVAC products. • Determine component specifications and create bills of materials and translation documents. • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical designers, and controls programming team to ensure seamless system integration. • Provide design guidance, oversight, and mentorship to assigned electrical designers. • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and ensure safety compliance of electrical/controls products per UL, CE, NEC, IBC, and NFPA standards. • Coordinate part shortages, build test fixtures, and develop cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment. • Establish testing, operation, maintenance, and repair procedures; support production during prototypes and initial production. • Implement engineering change notices and prepare As‑Built documentation. • Design complex power systems for custom air handling equipment serving critical infrastructure. • Lead projects, make design recommendations, and mentor junior engineers. • Maintain knowledge of electrical codes and attend professional development activities.

What You Bring

A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology is required, along with a minimum of two years of industry experience (or two or more years for an EE II level position). The candidate must demonstrate strong electrical and controls systems engineering and design skills, the ability to lead projects, make design recommendations, and mentor junior engineers. Creativity, excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, multitasking, organizational skills, and the capacity to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment are essential. Essential mental functions include effective written and spoken communication, interpersonal relationship skills, sound decision making, and teamwork. Physical requirements involve lifting up to 50 lb, sitting or standing for up to 95 % of work hours, and occasional exposure to manufacturing environments with temperature extremes, dust, and chemical fumes. • Communicate effectively, solve problems analytically, and manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment. • Travel as needed to address field issues or product development at other AAON plants. • Ability to lift up to 50 lb and work in manufacturing environments with temperature extremes, dust, and chemical fumes.
