About the Role

Within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, engineers design critical infrastructure that supports the digital age, from high‑performance data centers enabling AI to dynamic commercial spaces. The work balances mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil expertise to optimize energy efficiency, integrate resilient systems, and shape the future built environment. Reporting to a Senior Control Systems Specialist, the engineer will design complex industrial and building control and SCADA systems, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams on projects spanning oil & gas, manufacturing, healthcare, data centers, and more. The position requires self‑motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to deliver high‑quality, technically sound designs. • Design and develop industrial and building control and SCADA systems, including PLC and HMI programming. • Create and review construction documents: P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts, wiring and loop drawings. • Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, manage addenda, RFIs, change orders, and ensure schedule adherence. • Supervise junior staff and provide construction contract administration as a technical specialist on mid‑size projects. • Select and specify instrumentation, control panels, and network equipment for control system solutions. • Perform systems integration, field observations, and supplier submittal reviews; produce status and quality reports. • Maintain client relationships and participate in design review, marketing, and production meetings.

What You Bring

• Utilize CADD tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Visio. • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field; PE license; 4+ years control systems experience; hands‑on PLC/SCADA design and programming. • Preferred: Master’s degree; experience in data center or healthcare automation; California PE; knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and cybersecurity considerations.
