About the Role
Mortenson is seeking a Senior Safety Manager to provide leadership, direction, and support for its Zero Injury Safety program across multiple project teams and construction sites. The role involves overseeing safety initiatives, collaborating with various stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The Senior Safety Manager will plan and manage the implementation of Zero Injury Safety Program elements, lead safety collaborations with trade and joint‑venture partners, and conduct site hazard assessments throughout planning and construction phases. Additional duties include developing and delivering safety training, overseeing documentation and analysis of safety statistics, performing on‑site audits, leading incident investigations, and mentoring safety staff. • Plan and lead implementation of Zero Injury Safety Program elements across the operating group. • Collaborate on safety programs with trade partners and joint‑venture partners. • Conduct and review site hazard assessments during planning and construction phases. • Develop, schedule, and deliver safety training, including train‑the‑trainer sessions and orientation content. • Oversee documentation, tracking, and analysis of safety, injury, and hazard statistics and OSHA reports. • Monitor on‑site construction activities through audits, document deficiencies, and enforce corrective actions. • Lead incident reporting, investigations, and analysis while coaching safety managers on high‑risk plan reviews. • Provide professional direction, mentorship, and development opportunities to safety staff. • Maintain operational knowledge of construction safety standards, OSHA, ANSI, and related regulations. • Support the safety director and leadership team to achieve safety performance metrics and assist in incident response.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or a related field, or possesses a high school diploma with CHST, OSHA‑500, and at least 14 years of construction experience, including eight years dedicated to construction safety leadership on large, complex projects. Preferred credentials include Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and experience managing a team of safety professionals. Strong communication, presentation, and coaching abilities, as well as willingness to travel up to 100%, are required. • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field (or equivalent experience). • Minimum 14 years of continuous construction experience with at least 8 years in dedicated construction safety leadership. • Experience managing large, multi‑project safety programs, conducting hazard analyses, and developing controls. • Preferred certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP). • Strong organizational, computer, public speaking, and presentation skills. • Ability to coach, influence, and communicate effectively with project leaders and diverse stakeholders. • Willingness to travel up to 100% and possess a valid driver’s license. • Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity, inclusive behaviors, and affirmative action plans.
