About the Role
Within HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, the Control Systems Engineer will design critical infrastructure for data centers, commercial spaces, and other high‑performance facilities. Based in Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA, the role supports a national practice that delivers assessment, planning, design, automation programming, testing, commissioning, and maintenance services. The engineer will lead complex control and SCADA system designs, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, producing construction documents such as P&IDs, network diagrams, panel layouts, and loop drawings, and ensuring integration of PLCs, HMIs, and automation hardware. Responsibilities also include reviewing electrical documents, managing RFIs and change orders, supervising junior staff, and providing contract administration as needed. • Design and develop complex industrial and building control systems and SCADA architectures. • Create and maintain biddable construction documents: P&IDs, network diagrams, panel layouts, wiring and loop drawings. • Program PLCs and configure HMIs for diverse automation platforms. • Coordinate design efforts with multidisciplinary teams and resolve cross‑discipline conflicts. • Manage RFIs, addenda, and change orders, incorporating updates into project documentation. • Supervise and mentor junior engineers and technicians as required. • Conduct field observations, review supplier submittals, and generate construction reports. • Utilize CADD tools such as AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, Bluebeam, and Visio for documentation. • Maintain client relationships and support business development activities.

What You Bring
• Possess a PE license (preferably California), a bachelor's or master's in engineering, and at least 4 years of control systems experience. • Demonstrate proficiency with automation hardware (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and software (Wonderware, Ignition, iFix). • Apply knowledge of cybersecurity, network protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP), and OT network design.
