About the Role
In this role the operator is responsible for safely and productively operating heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators for civil projects. Daily duties include equipment walk-arounds, reporting maintenance needs, greasing, checking fluids, fueling, and cleaning. Operators also assist the crew with hand-tool work, measurements, grading, and occasional labor as required. The operator coordinates daily tasks and production goals with the foreman and civil superintendent, maintains site safety, monitors surrounding utilities, and follows lockout/tagout procedures. Proper personal protective equipment must be worn at all times, and the operator is responsible for safe material unloading, rigging inspections, and trench-box usage. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions, requiring appropriate dress and adherence to safety protocols. The operator must help maintain a safe and healthy work environment and plan daily tools, equipment, and material needs with the foreman. • Operate loaders or excavators safely and productively. • Perform daily equipment walk‑arounds, maintenance reporting, greasing, fluid checks, fueling and cleaning. • Coordinate daily tasks and production goals with the foreman and civil superintendent. • Maintain site safety, monitor surrounding personnel and utilities. • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and wear required PPE at all times. • Unload material deliveries without damage and conduct proper rigging inspections. • Utilize trench boxes and adhere to trench safety and shoring protocols. • Assist ground crews with hand‑tool work, measurements, grading and physically demanding tasks. • Read survey staking and interpret project drawings.

What You Bring
Applicants must hold a valid driver’s license, preferably have a high school diploma or GED, and possess three to five years of experience operating a loader or excavator. Experience with trench safety, shoring, and laying water, sanitary and storm sewer utilities is required. Key knowledge includes reading survey staking and interpreting project drawings to understand the scope of work. Physical requirements include standing or kneeling for 90 % of the workday, the ability to lift up to 50 lb, stoop, bend, reach, and hear clearly. Clear vision, with corrective lenses if needed, is essential. • Hold a valid driver’s license; high school diploma or GED preferred. • 3–5 years experience operating a loader or excavator and using trench safety/shoring. • Experience laying water, sanitary and storm sewer utilities. • Stand or kneel for 90 % of the workday and lift up to 50 lb. • Maintain clear hearing and vision (corrective lenses if needed). • Work in varied weather conditions; dress appropriately and uphold a safe work environment.
