About the Role

Responsibilities include developing design aspects from project inception to completion using 3D and smart design software, and applying quality control procedures to ensure high workmanship standards. The Designer researches catalogs, specifications, corporate standards, and utilizes the document management system while suggesting improvements. Potential project‑related problems are identified and communicated to stakeholders, and short‑term travel may be required for site visits. • Design substation projects using 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, SDS). • Apply quality control procedures to ensure high standards of workmanship. • Research specifications, catalogs, and corporate standards for design accuracy. • Manage and improve the document management system. • Identify project issues and propose solutions to stakeholders. • Conduct short‑term travel for site visits as needed.

The Designer – Substation supports substation design projects across the QISG platform by performing routine 2D/3D physical and protection & control (P&C) design tasks. The role requires working knowledge of basic design techniques, industry procedures, accuracy, standards compliance, and strong CAD proficiency. The Designer works under a Lead Designer and collaborates closely with engineers and drafting teams to produce quality drawing packages for internal and client‑facing deliverables. Candidates should hold an associate degree in Drafting & Design or a related certification, with a four‑year Eng Tech degree considered a plus. A minimum of four years’ experience in the electric utility industry performing detailed CAD design for high‑voltage substation projects is required, along with proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, SDS, or similar tools. Strong knowledge of substation components, construction methods, basic communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a complex environment are essential. • Hold an associate degree in Drafting & Design (or Eng Tech) and at least 4 years CAD design experience in high‑voltage substations. • Demonstrate proficiency with CAD software and extensive knowledge of substation components and construction methods. • Communicate effectively and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams. • Work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize in a complex environment.
