About the Role

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, engineers design critical infrastructure for the digital age—high‑performance data centers, commercial environments, and other facilities that support technological advancement, sustainability and human experience. The group combines mechanical, electrical, structural and civil expertise to solve complex design challenges with precision and collaboration. • Collaborate with architects and engineering leads to develop designs and drive projects forward, leading small teams and mentoring EITs. • Coordinate structural design team through design development and contract document phases. • Facilitate meetings and reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance. • Conduct design development and contract document sessions on‑site with the Project Manager and other disciplines. • Manage workload across design development and construction document phases to meet schedule targets. • Handle addenda, RFIs, change proposals and change orders, integrating approved changes into project documents. • Perform site visits and lead construction administration efforts. • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials, sizes and complete calculations. • Review structural documents for conflicts with other disciplines and industry best practices.

What You Bring

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering, a professional engineering license for the job location, and experience with design software such as AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP, ETABS, SAFE, etc. An entrepreneurial mindset, strong communication skills and a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture are essential. • Hold a Master’s degree in Structural or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis (preferred). • Possess 5–8 years of progressive structural engineering experience on projects of similar scale and complexity (preferred). • Demonstrate strong communication, emerging leadership and entrepreneurial spirit (preferred). • Hold a Structural Engineer (SE) license or qualify via NCEES exam for Illinois (preferred).
