About the Role

As part of HDR’s Building Engineering Services Group, you will help design critical infrastructure that underpins the digital age—from high‑performance data centers powering AI to dynamic commercial spaces. The team blends mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil expertise to solve complex design challenges, optimize energy efficiency, integrate resilient systems, and shape the future built environment. The Principal Engineer role is a senior leadership position focused on setting practice standards, advising on complex projects, delivering high‑quality results, mentoring staff, attracting talent, cultivating client relationships, and representing HDR as a thought leader in the professional community. • Set practice standards and demonstrate exceptional leadership in your expertise area. • Serve as senior technical advisor on complex, multi‑disciplinary projects. • Drive project delivery and support high‑performing teams. • Promote a quality culture and champion innovative design solutions. • Mentor and develop professionals to elevate HDR’s practice. • Attract top talent to grow and strengthen the practice. • Build client relationships and help identify and win new opportunities. • Act as a thought leader to advance HDR’s capabilities. • Represent HDR in the professional community to enhance its reputation.

What You Bring

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, at least 20 years of experience, a valid professional engineering license, and deep project execution expertise. A master’s degree and prior experience in an engineering consulting firm are preferred. Candidates must be proficient in Microsoft Office and design software, be recognized as technical experts, and demonstrate a commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture. • Master's degree in Engineering (preferred). • Experience with an engineering consulting firm (preferred). • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (required). • Minimum 20 years of engineering experience (required). • Professional engineering license (PE or P.Eng) for the job location (required). • Extensive project execution experience (required). • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard design software (required). • Recognized technical expert in engineering analysis and design with proven leadership (required). • Commitment to active participation in HDR’s employee‑owned culture (required).
