About the Role

The Operator – Heavy Equipment is responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment at a recycling center, landfill, or transfer station, performing tasks such as transferring, spreading, covering, loading, and compacting waste or soil efficiently and safely. Key duties include conducting pre‑ and post‑operation inspections of equipment, operating a variety of machines like forklifts, excavators, bulldozers, and front‑end loaders while adhering to safety standards, continuously monitoring waste for unacceptable materials, and ensuring equipment is ready for use by cleaning tracks or wheels as needed. The role also involves performing and documenting minor service tasks, escalating complex mechanical issues to the Maintenance Shop, completing equipment condition reports, following all safety policies, keeping the shop clean and organized at shift end, and handling additional job‑related duties as assigned.
