What You Bring

Applicants must be Canadian citizens of African descent and permanent residents of Nova Scotia. Priority will be given to individuals who are Black Nova Scotians, Indigenous Black, Africadian, Afri‑Scotian or Scotian and who are descendants of free and enslaved Black Loyalists, Black Refugees, Maroons and other Black people settled across 52 indigenous land‑based Black communities. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their connection to the Black Nova Scotian community if selected for an interview. This bursary will not be awarded in conjunction with any other Nova Scotia Power Inc. scholarship or bursary and will not be for graduate studies. To qualify, applicants must complete the online application and upload a resume, high‑school transcript (grades 10‑12) or an unofficial university transcript, and answer the structured questions using the provided link. The budget template must also be submitted. • Preference for studies in Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law. • Eligible applicants must be Canadian citizens of African descent, permanent residents of Nova Scotia, and identify as Black Nova Scotian or related communities. • Applicants may re‑apply each year for up to four years while enrolled in college or university. • Required documents: resume, high‑school (grades 10‑12) or unofficial university transcript, structured question responses, and budget template.

Benefits

There are four $2,500 non‑renewable awards available to Black Nova Scotian students entering any year of a full‑time post‑secondary education program. Preference will be given to applicants enrolled in Power Engineering, Power Line Technician, Instrumentation Tech, Engineering, Technology, Business, Marketing & Communications, Environmental Sciences or Law. Recipients may have the opportunity to participate in a 12‑week paid internship at Nova Scotia Power during their term of study and will be notified to apply for opportunities. Past recipients are eligible to re‑apply each year for up to four years while still enrolled in a college or undergraduate university program. • Four non‑renewable $2,500 awards for Black Nova Scotian students in full‑time post‑secondary programs. • Recipients may receive a 12‑week paid internship at Nova Scotia Power.
